Lineage according to Mada tradition is a descent group which is reckoned through paternal parent. All members of Mada society trace their common ancestry to lineage members exclusively and collectively exercised certain rights in common and are subject to a number of obligations. The lineage structure comprised of a number of clans who regard themselves as brothers by the act of traditions religion whereby leopard meat is eaten as a ritual rite. The concept ‘Lineage’ as conceptualized by Mada traditions is referred to one family when it faces the whole clan, but the internal relations of its members is strictly stratified by generation, and segmented by descent. It also has the force of jural instrument the regulate inheritance, succession and distribution of rights and privileges over people..

Lineage is dramatically enforced as candidates for offices are properly indentified as members of lineage group before they are considered as contestants, therefore, for someone to be considered for appointment into any offices, he must produce evidence that links him to a known partillineal forebear in each generation to previous incumbent of the office. Their pedigree must be correct and acceptable by the lineage assembly.
